Easy, Joy-Filled Holiday Entertaining Recipes

With less time this year between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we are quickly ramping up decorations, party plans and menus. We don’t want to miss a thing when it comes to enjoying the holidays and getting together with friends and family to celebrate the season.

Now that my house is decorated, I'm making gifts for neighbors and friends as we fill up our calendars with open houses and cocktail parties. I try to have homemade gifts on hand for friends that stop by during the season or when we meet up for holiday celebrations, because homemade items are heartfelt, personal and easily shared with others.

When I have a little more time to prepare in advance, I love making fresh thumbprint cookies using my homemade jam or beautiful butterscotch cookies with icing that also help to dress up the table on the special Christmas platter we use once a year.

I do enjoy dressing up the table for an open house or afternoon party during the season so friends can stop by and graze while visiting. Rather than elaborate centerpieces, I use berries and colorful edible items to make my table inviting, beautiful, and functional all at the same time. A festive berry and cheese platter is always in the mix and there is no recipe required, I just have fun with it and add a few sprigs of fresh herbs for color and aroma. If you want to get really creative, try this as your centerpiece and wow your guests with the ultimate Gingerbread House

Once guests arrive at our house for a holiday party, we like to share wine and sparkling champagne, but also offer a holiday themed drink that doesn’t require a lot of fuss. For this, we make a spiced sangria in advance with rave reviews every single time. Trust me, its really good and the cinnamon sticks add the perfect holiday touch along with amazing flavor combinations!

I keep the holiday decorating simple by using my menu to decorate, somehow a handful of strawberries always find their way on my table. We also dress up sparkling wine by dropping fresh raspberries or blueberries in the glass, again easy but adds that little extra touch that we look for during the season.
