Morgan's Thanksgiving Traditions


Thanksgiving - my all-time favorite holiday. Any reason to fill my plate as much as I want and gather around with my closest friends and family to share laughs is reason enough to make me smile! I don't know about you, but I'm that girl that immediately whips out the Thanksgiving decorations the day after Halloween. I just WAIT for this holiday to roll around.friendsgiving-162

One of my favorite parts about the holiday is the cooking - we all head to my parents house and everyone picks a dish to prepare. My dad and grandpa are always in charge of the turkey, my mom and grandma do most of the sides - the green bean casserole, stuffing, rolls, salad, and I am the mashed potato- pro and all things appetizers and dessert. My brother, well, we leave him to what he's best at: the beverage selection.

Before the family gathers together, I always put together a berry and cheese platter - manchego, gouda, gorgonzola, pepper jack, brie - you name it. We're Italian, so there is never a shortage of cheese. But then, there's the fresh, juicy berry pairings - raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and blueberries - another favorite that also adds such a vibrant pop of color to the display.

For added protein you can always add various salami cuts - I typically add finocchio salami and iberico ham. Some marcona almonds can be a nice touch for some crunch - I love the rosemary flavor from Whole Foods. 


Then, we continue to prep for the feast - half-focused on the recipes at hand, the multiple conversations we're in, and diving into the berry and cheese tray while trying to leave room in our bellies! 


Thanksgiving is not Thanksgiving without a cobbler, am I right? From the beginning of time my family has ALWAYS been a berry-cobbler-family. We even have berry cobblers on birthdays .. yes, I'm serious. 


Our most favored family cobbler recipe is this blackberry raspberry cobbler - it's the perfect pick for the holiday and has so much flavor and sweetness, and the most delicious, melt-in-your-mouth golden crust.

I usually prep the cobbler earlier in the morning before the rest of the family arrives, and pop it in the often while we work on our main course so it's warm and ready-to-eat as soon as we lick our turkey plates clean. After topping off the day with cobbler, we're headed straight for the couch to watch holiday movies while we let the Thanksgiving feast digest.


These are the moments I'm most grateful for - the quality time spent with my family. The baking, cooking, sharing recipe advice - tips and tricks, laughs around the table, stories and movies around the fire after we eat. I'm so incredibly thankful for the roof over my head and the means to prepare a delicious, hearty meal with my family.
