Where are all my West Coast vs. Mid-West folks at?! I don’t know about you, but I am ACTUALLY excited for the Super Bowl this year. Honestly, not so much of a sports gal over here. But I always come around for the big sports games finales (and the half-time shows, am I right?!) This year we have the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs at the Super Bowl and it’s really cool to see a semi-local team in the big game! While if I am being honest, I’m usually not that into the games, I am always into the excuses to snack, relax and hangout with my friends and family at Super Bowl watch parties.
Our Super Bowl tradition usually entails an afternoon at my parents’ house. We bring apps and drinks, and my family barbecues something like wings (all the yummy, messy finger foods!)
That said, this year I am doing my absolute best to enjoy the otherwise splurging sporty Sunday, with healthier options that make me still FEEL like I’m actually splurging. Make sense?! We’re only a month into the New Year and I am actually trying to stick with my health goals.. so here we go!
The Super Bowl is essentially a mini holiday for sports fans so of course, like any other holiday, there has to be beverages to celebrate with. Beer is always a popular option for sport games, but I personally like these super easy Strawberry Jell-O Shots. They’re bite sized, delicious and LIGHT. You’ll surprise your guests with a fun alternative to mixed drinks and heavy beers.
Another Super Bowl staple is a classic bowl of guacamole and tortilla chips. Well, this is actually a staple for me almost every day because I LOVE guac, but what I really love is Strawberry Guacamole. It melds both sweet and savory flavors together, adds some fun color and texture and party guests are always surprised by the out-of-the-box addition of incorporating fresh berries to this classic appetizer option.
If you’re heading over to another hosting household to watch the Super Bowl you never want to show up empty handed, right? A super easy appetizer option to bring are these Blue Cheese and Walnut Stuffed Strawberries. These are the least intimidating recipe to make – all you have to do is cut the strawberries in half lengthwise, scoop out the backs with a melon baller or spoon, and stuff with cream cheese and blue cheese crumbles! Just top with walnuts and you’re set. These are fun to snack on without all the added calories from crackers, and they still have a great crunch from the addition of the walnuts. It’s ALSO great for all my fellow gluten-free folks out there too!
Looking for a super easy and sweet dessert to offer on your party platter? Opt for Gluten Free Blueberry Chocolate Chip Cookies – you can easily swap in GF flour or just use regular flour – but either way, these are so simple and delicious, and a fun twist on the every day chocolate chip cookie.
That is IT! Those are my top recommendations to get your home Super Bowl ready in a pinch, or if you’re prepping last minute to head to another home to celebrate! Let me know what you plan to whip up in the comments below – and good luck to your teams!!
