Halloween has come and gone but the eerie vibe remains with the shortening days, orange leaves and foggy mornings. This time of year, I love enjoying the darkest berries of them all, the blackberry. Its deep color and rich flavor adds the perfect mix of sweet and tart to any dish and really makes me feel like fall has arrived. Here are five blackberry essentials that you can enjoy this season:
1. Sauce it up with blackberries
From time to time on fall evenings, I enjoy a fancy at home dinner. For me, a rib eye with red wine is the ultimate way to pat myself on the back after a long day. To add an extra burst of flavor, I follow this Red Wine Reduction recipe. Savor every bite as the berries infuse their flavor into the meat. Yum!
2. Toast to the season
As for cocktails, this Spiced Berry Holiday Sangria is my mix of choice. It can be enjoyed on a cool fall evening and I especially love the way the blackberry pairs with the cinnamon.
3. Next level brownies
Sweater Weather is warm brownie weather! I am planning a movie night with friends and I plan to have these Dark Chocolate and Blackberry Skillet Brownies on the menu. A dollop of vanilla ice cream brings this recipe to the next level.
4. Potluck just got more interesting this football season
This pie is at the top of my list for my next Football watching party potluck. The blackberries add an unexpected flavor to the all-American classic apple pie.
5. Breakfast calls for blackberry muffins!
With the end of Day Light Savings Time, I like mixing up my morning routine. I usually bake blueberry muffins in the mornings but introducing blackberries into my muffin mix signals that times are changing and that it is a good time to try something different.
